While aiming for a nostalgic feel, Puppy Games have done a very good job of still making it feel and look futuristic without losing touch with its roots. Like any retro based game, we’re not looking at hundreds of hours of enjoyment, however you can easily expect to lose an evening to the addictive pick up and play system, and it’s always fun to come back to time and time again. You’ll occasionally come across challenge levels which task you with shooting or dodging as many enemies as possible to further bolster your score.

There’s nothing more rewarding than surviving a screen plastered full of enemies, with neon beams of light, coins and your shield on zero, and then rushing to refill your shield ready for the next level. Progression not only unlocks many of the purchasable upgrades, but also shows the best of Ultratron. As you start chaining together multipliers and building your funds you’ll quickly make short work of those same levels which initially seemed like hard work. The first few games will seem pretty tough and daunting, especially when you realise a single death throws you back to the start with no checkpoints. We should point out that Xbox One does once again come last when testing fast-travel loading times, although only marginally worse than the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X.Ĭonsidering all the rave reviews that proclaim Elden Ring is a masterpiece (including our own Elden Ring review), it’s certainly not a game you want to be spoiled by underperforming hardware. That’s still a loading time of around 29 seconds, though, far from ideal in a game where death comes easily. The only test where the base Xbox One doesn’t completely lag behind is in loading times, where it narrowly beats PS4 when loading back to a nearby site of grace. While this is not unheard of in other games, the low frame rate animations in Elden Ring on Xbox One take it to an extreme we haven’t seen before, and it’s horribly jarring, to say the least. Enemies viewed from a distance are animated at an extremely low frame rate. In-game animations are also heavily compromised in the Xbox One version of Elden Ring. The Xbox One version also targets 30fps, but Digital Foundry’s analysis shows that it rarely manages to hit that target, often dipping into the low and mid-twenties when you go from small dungeons into the open world.
#ULTRATRON XBOX ONE 1080P#
In terms of resolution, Xbox One typically renders the game at 900p, compared to the dynamic 1800p on Xbox One X, while the base PS4 can at least output at full HD 1080p resolution.
